Oh Barbara!

Dear Barbara,

Didn't your mother ever have that talk with you?

No? Surely she taught you to take off one piece of jewelry before leaving the house.

This rule too will stand you in good stead on many an occasion: "Just because you can, doesn't mean you have to."

Think about that the next time you reach for this sweater and maybe pass on this lesson to the designer as well.

Sweet Jesus, there's a lot going on here. I see picot, and cables, and crocheted peek-a-boo inserts, and popcorn stitch, and a ribbon belt complete with belt loops.

There are things to like about this sweater. Separately. All together? The preppy cables with the spikey popcorn and picot and the hippy-dippy sleeve cutouts? Stiff top, drapey bottom, satin ribbon? Waaaay to much.

Still, I'll give you credit for being able to wear a sweater that hits below the hips. You're nearing 80 if you're not lying about your birth date. A whole lot of women a whole lot younger than you can't pull that off.

Oh, and btw, that whole "Just because you can, doesn't mean you have to" rule also applies when it comes to publishing the details of an affair with a married man who isn't even dead.

Damn those misplaced modifiers! They *are* born of haste, aren't they?

So, let's try this:

"... also applies when it comes to publishing, during his lifetime, the details of an affair with a married man. Bad form, Barbara. Just like that sweater."
