Civil War Knitting

I've been asked to consign some Civil War knitted goods to an authentic sutlery for an upcoming event--time to get cracking.

In fact, to really get cracking, I may need to crochet.

There's simply not that many patterns out there, either period or reproduction for men's goods. I'd like to attempt the pom pom hat and have already started some of these gentleman's mitts, from an 1865 pattern.

Reproduction knitting for men has the same inherent problems as it does with women's wear. The original patterns are hard to read or have significant errors. The few reproductions are often in the wrong gauge yarn.

Time to get cracking--if I don't crack first.
