The full name is Capuchon Religieuse.I'm pretty sure that's French for "religious cap," maybe because it looks like a wimple. I hope it has nothing to do with looking like a monkey, although it turns out that capuchin monkeys are named after Capuchin Friars, whom they're said to resemble.
Regardless, it's done, and I'm suddenly excited about Civil War knitting again.

As you know, I have one of those & can attest to its practicality. It really keeps your neck warm in a cold wind.
BTW, a "religieuse" is a nun, so I think it's supposed to resemble a nun's wimple, maybe?

I think it's lovely. Period pieces fascinate me. I am intimidated by knitting without a pattern, for some reason.
Thanks to both of you. It's not really knitting without a pattern at all. Knitting civil war items just involves reading *old* patterns.
